1971 VH Valiant Charger R/T (Road/Track)
My love affair with Australian Valiants began after we left Australia and settled in New Zealand. There had been some buzz among my school-mates about this awesome new Valiant Coupe coming out soon; The Charger. Now there was no internet in those days, so information was scarce but with the scrap of a magazine article here or a rumour there, the excitement grew. And then, there it was. Here’s how it happened. One lovely sunny day on a school excursion to the Bee-Hive (New Zealand’s Parliament Building at that time) a busload of kiddies were rolling down the highway and I was one of them. I scored a window seat and was trying to ignore the general hubbub and commotion and was staring out the window, and there it was, coming out of a side road somewhere around Paraparumu (try saying that one with a mouthful of Jaffas). My first ever sighting of a Charger. It was an R/T Six Pack, Yellow, brand spanking new. I excitedly shouted to my mates, “look, look, a Charger!”. And so begun the dream; “I’m going to own one someday”. At a later date I will go into the details of how that dream came true but for now, enjoy the pics of my Trax 1/43 scale VH Valiant Charger R/T.
