The Avenger with the iconic big bottle of Lemon and Paeroa (L&P)
During the 70’s the Hillman Avenger was a somewhat desirable car in New Zealand. The Avenger never made it to Australia which is a shame but during that same period Australia had the similar Chrysler Centura which came with a range of engines including the Hemi 245. Nevertheles, the Avenger was a cool car at the time even though it came with 1.5 and 1.6 litre engines, some models even had dual carbs. Vanguards Hillman Avenger 1/43 Scale Diecast
This entry is to show my Vanguards 1/43 Scale Model Hillman Avenger and to describe my experience in one. When I was in New Zealand a mate of mine had one identical to this model, including the colour.
Nice detail on the rear of the Vanguards Hillman Avenger.
We were still in school in a small town in country NZ when a mate of mine got hold of an Avenger that from memroy was either new or close to being new. Now I can never detail all the adventures we had in that Avenger but one of them included mounting the footpath downtown and almost putting it through the local fruit shop window. The other adventure included an incident that made the papers. But that story is not for me to tell other than that no-one was injured but it was the talk of the town for sometime.
Those couple of incidents and the fact that I did like Avengers is the reason I tracked down this Vanguards version. Nice model. Great detail. I have decided to include a couple of dioramas which feature the Avenger with the soft drink Lemon & Paeroa (L&P): A true icon of NZ soft-drinks. You can now buy it here in Oz but it doesnt taste the way I remember it as a teenager roaring round country NZ in Hillman Avenger. Sweet as!
